What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a safe, effective, medication, first approved by the FDA for anesthesia over fifty years ago. It works differently than traditional antidepressants, providing relief much faster and with higher success rates than traditional medications.

Research has proven that ketamine re-establishes and strengthens connections in the brain improving not just emotions and feelings, but how the brain works.  Ketamine treatment brings the brain to a higher state of health and well-being.  Ketamine works fast to restore brain health and relieve symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and some forms of chronic pain.

How Can Ketamine Help You?

How Can Ketamine Help You?

We use ketamine infusions to treat depression, anxiety, suicidality, PTSD, chronic pain, and other difficult-to-treat mood conditions.

At lower doses, it helps guide your mind and heal pathways in the brain. It restores brain health and helps you to achieve the clarity you want to live the life you deserve. Our nurses and therapists guide you along this journey. We are with you every step of the way.

Its healing power activates within just hours, providing quick and effective relief with success rates higher than other medications, TMS, and even ECT (New England Journal of Medicine).

What People Think

Conditions We Treat

Intravenous ketamine is a proven, reliable, and powerful treatment for people suffering from depression, anxiety, PTSD, or neuropathic pain.

At Northwest Ketamine Clinics, our outcomes speak for themselves.  The vast majority of our patients report significant improvement within days of starting treatment.

Whether you’re seeking to feel better when other medications haven’t worked, or you want a breakthrough treatment that will remove the blocks preventing you from living your best life, ketamine can work for you.

If current treatments aren’t providing the level of relief you are seeking, ketamine may be for you. IV ketamine can help you optimize your current treatment, reduce or eliminate other daily medications, and achieve a more fulfilling life.

Why Ketamine?

The Ketamine Experience

Ketamine, given by infusion, has been called the “biggest breakthrough in depression treatment in 50 years” by former director of the National Institute of Mental Health, Thomas Insel MD.

Since 2017, Northwest Ketamine Clinics has provided over 40,000 infusions to thousands of patients.  We are one of the national leaders in this remarkable treatment.

Ketamine infusions are a pleasant experience for most patients, and most describe our clinic as a relaxing oasis where they can let go and fully experience the positive effects of ketamine.  After our nurse helps you get comfortable in a private room, an infusion is started.  The dreamy effects of the ketamine start within a few minutes.  We specialize in low-dose infusions for mental health where people typically experience an inward journey that is usually described as reflective, and enjoyable, while also being odd, and sometimes strange.  A nurse is immediately available for support and assistance if needed.

After the infusion, ketamine wears off quickly.  Most people recover in 15-30 minutes and leave the clinic within 90 minutes of their appointment time.  Because ketamine effects your mind, you should not drive or return to work until the following day.  Most people use the day to rest, reflect, journal, and practice self-care.  Infusion days are a chance to focus on your mental well-being and take a break from the stressors of the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does ketamine treatment have to be intravenous?

IV ketamine is the gold standard, and nothing has been proven to work as well as the intravenous route. Chances of success with IV ketamine are higher than with any other route.

Although ketamine can be administered orally, intranasally, and intramuscularly—research has found that these aren’t as effective as intravenous. With these methods, much of the drug is reduced by the liver before it can reach the brain and take effect.

With protocols that have been developed over years of meticulous research based on thousands of patient experiences, IV ketamine is by far the preferred method of administration to achieve maximum benefit from treatment.

Because IV ketamine is almost 100% available to the brain, we are able to give lower doses to achieve the same result as higher doses given via other routes, exposing you to the lowest possible effective dose, and fewer potential side effects than other methods..

What are the benefits of ketamine?

According to research studies, approximately 70-80% of patients feel significant improvement in depression and chronic pain symptoms. Many even experience full resolution of their symptoms.

The onset of this relief typically comes within hours or days of treatment (not weeks, as with other medications). People often describe an increased ability to function even before other symptoms are resolved.

These effects typically last for several weeks, although some patients report experiencing complete relief of depressed symptoms for extended periods. Our programs include six infusions (for mood) or four infusions (for pain). Maintenance treatments are on an individual schedule but typically involve a single infusion every 6-12 weeks.  Special pricing and memberships are available to keep the costs of maintenance treatments as low as possible.  We remain the lowest price for continued care in the region.

What are the risks?

When administered by skilled hands, ketamine is an extremely safe medication. Short-term side effects may include small increases in blood pressure, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, and visual misperceptions. These typically resolve during the treatment session.

Research over 20 years has not shown any significant long-term side effects from repeated ketamine infusions, even from higher doses used in Complex Regional Pain Syndromes (CRPS), when provided by skilled hands in a safe environment.

What medical conditions would prevent me from qualifying for ketamine treatment?

Medically, very few people fail to qualify for ketamine treatment. Some conditions, such as uncontrolled high blood pressure and congestive heart failure, may require tight medical control before treatment begins.

Patients on a class of medication known as MAOIs should use caution or avoid ketamine. Due to a lack of research, we cannot offer treatment at this time for people with a history of psychosis.

No, our medical staff will review your medications with you prior to treatment and advise you, but it is very uncommon for any changes to be suggested prior to starting ketamine.
